Make A Difference

When I was a Girl Scout, we were always urged to leave our camp site cleaner than when we found it. It grossed me out to clean up other people's trash...but now I understand why my Girl Scout leader (my MOM!) felt that way: if we didn't do it, who would?

I'm no longer a Girl Scout, but I still feel an obligation to leave this planet a better place than when I found it. To do that, I support various charities (and will continue to support them after I'm gone: since I don't have kids, all royalties from my books will go to charity after my death) that work to make this planet a cleaner, better place--as well as an easier place for those who aren't as fortunate as I am.

Below are just a few of the charities that I support:

  • ASPCA
The ASPCA works to save abused pets, pass humane laws, and shares resources with shelters across the country.

  • Campaign to End Fistula
The Campaign aims to reduce maternal death and injury in developing nations.

  • Environmental Defense
Environmental Defense works to fight global warming, protect endangered species and clean our air. Check out the page they made just for my readers!

How do YOU make a difference?

Here are some readers who volunteer to make a difference:

I'd like to hear about your favorite charity or cause and how you've tried to help out! Have you gone to your local animal shelter and helped socialize the cats? Did you organize a canned food drive for your local food bank?

Please send an email to activist@megcabot.com and tell me about your charity, why it means so much to you and what you've done to make a difference. If possible, please send a photo of you doing your volunteer work. Each month, I will pick a different reader to profile her good works. Who knows? Maybe you'll find you and your charity highlighted right here on megcabot.com!

If you are under 18 and I choose your profile, your parents will have to sign a waiver in order to post it on my site. Also, I'm reserving the right to edit your submission. However, to save me time, it would be great if you wrote in complete sentences, and as always, no chat speak!

I can't wait to hear what you've been doing -- when you're not reading my books, of course!

You can go to the message boards to discuss how you are making a difference.
