It’s finally here—Spring, the official season of rebirth and regeneration! So what could be more fitting than announcing the release of the first YA novel I’ve written in more than a decade?

December 22, 2026
I took a break from writing young adult fiction because, like an Indiana cornfield, I needed to rest (we Midwesterners know all about the benefits of letting fields lie fallow for a season).
And my fallow season appears to have worked, since Kissing Cowboys will be out in December 2026 (original publication was January 2027, but they are releasing it a little bit early), with a sequel to follow shortly after. You can find out more about it here!
But before we all head to the ranch, I have two graphic novels and a book for adults coming out this summer, so I’m going to be a bit busy…traveling the country to meet readers!

Please join me in for my Princess Diaries Graphic Novel tour! I’ll be making the following stops this June/July…with even more to follow in August for my cozy witchy romantic suspense novel, The Magic We Made…

August 11, 2026
…and then even more in September for the first book in my brand new series with illustrator Amelia Allore, Detective Baby!

Get ready to return to where it all began
I’m so excited for these events! Not to complain, since I know many, many people have it much harder, but I’ve had a pretty terrible few years. My mom got diagnosed with dementia; I got diagnosed with a leaky heart valve; my cat got diagnosed with a tail-pull injury. Then both my mom and my cat ended up passing away.
But thanks to the brilliant staff at Columbia-Presbyterian Milstein Family Heart Center, my heart got fixed, so I feel great…so good, in fact, that I’m writing YA again.
But none of this good stuff would be happening if it weren’t for you readers, who have been so supportive and kind to me over the years. I cannot thank you enough, but I want to try!
And one way that I’m trying is to offer anyone who pre-orders a copy of The Princess Diaries Graphic Novel a free Genovian passport holder. Look how pretty!

To get one for yourself, merely follow the instructions here. I just got mine, and it is so cute (I got mine early because it’s because it’s my book. You will get yours at the end of June).
I know it might seem like I have a lot of books coming out at once (I haven’t even mentioned any of the relaunches of my older titles, like Vanished: When Lightning Strikes, formerly 1-800-Where-R-You, now with sprayed edges and slightly tweaked language, though it still very much takes place in 2002):

But a lot of them are books I’ve been working on for ages and just couldn’t seem to finish to my satisfaction (until now). I got the idea for a baby who loves to solve crimes more than a decade ago.
And I wrote the first draft of Kissing Cowboys so long ago, the Internet was not even invented (or at least before it was mainstream). Back then, I was calling it Cowboy College, which is probably why I couldn’t seem to make it work: the ranch is partially based on this college, but in my book, it’s a high school. Once we got the title straightened out, the whole story (and its sequel) fell into place!
But even though I feel much better after my fallow period, I’m still capable of screwing up. And that is why I’ve been asked once again by the Royal Genovian Press Office to clear up a rumor that is going around. So without further ado, here we go:

Rumor: The Princess Diaries 3 movie is still happening.
Fact: This is true! I can’t say much more than that…but I really want to!
Rumor: All the stars from the previous unauthorized biopics about Princess Mia are returning for the third one.
Fact: All the characters from the previous unauthorized biopics about Princess Mia are returning in the third according to the last script that I read. I have no idea if all of the actors who play these characters are returning. I am only a writer (and the Princess’s official biographer). No one tells writers anything, and for good reason: How do you think Mia’s diaries got leaked in the first place?

See you soon!
More later.
Much love,
Meg
