Meg's Diary

Happy Galentine’s/Valentine’s Day! Look Up Edition

I don’t know about you, but last year had so many ups and downs, I thought I was on a roller coaster. Some of those downs included:

  • Heart valve surgery.
  • Canceling book tour/events (due to heart valve surgery).
  • Elderly family members getting sick.
  • Two books due (that I still haven’t finished yet due to all of the above).
  • Netflix bailing on The Mediator series.
  • Princess Diaries 3 stalled due to writers strike.

It’s easy when things aren’t going so great to get a little down. I’ve talked before about situational depression and how we all go through periods  where we feel like things are never going to get better or even “be normal” again.

That’s why it’s important to remember that along with the downs, there are ALWAYS ups, too. You just have to look at things the right way:

  • Heart valve surgery was a success!
  • I had two books come out!
  • My family members are getting proper care!
  • I’m making progress on those books I have due!
  • I got to go on Between The Covers!
  • The Mediator series has been picked up by a different streaming platform/production company (more on that at a later date)!
  • Princess Diaries 3 is back on track!

There are so many things to be happy about this Valentine’s Day:

  • The Hallmark Channel has a whole new line up of new Jane Austen-themed rom-coms!
  • This real-life couple who I wrote about cute-meeting during the pandemic got married…and had a baby!
  • A lot of us are watching football now (including me) when we never thought we would…and even sort of enjoying it!
  • I can go up and down the stairs of my house without feeling like I’m going to die!

And now, just in time for 2/14, I have even more great news:

Educating Caroline, originally published in 2002 under my adult historical romance pseudonym, is getting re-released under my real name!

With an updated cover, fresh editing, and a new foreword, the book still contains “the warmth and charm of a playful puppy” (Publishers Weekly starred review) while retaining its high “spice” content.

Could readers used to the PG level content of my YA books stumble across this book and encounter multiple sex scenes?

Yes!

Am I okay with that?

Yes!

There are actually a lot of parallels between the abysmal state of sex education and women’s reproductive rights in this country today, and the slut-shaming and gate-keeping misogyny of Victorian England, where this book is set, and against which Caroline rebels!

Look for the release of an updated Educating Caroline in Fall of 2024!

In the meantime, don’t forget that Judy Blume’s Books and Books Key West has a huge Meg Cabot collection. Just fill your cart online, jot down how you’d like the books signed/personalized in the Comment section, and they’ll make sure your books get to me to sign, then delivered to you!

Have a happy (and SAFE) Galentine’s/Valentine’s Day! And remember: look UP, not DOWN!

XOXO

More later.

Much love,

Meg
